How to write Social Stories for people on the Autism Spectrum:
This full-day course is aimed at people who already have a basic understanding of the autism spectrum. It explains why Social Stories can be effective to the improvements in the social understanding of individuals on the autism spectrum which often leads to an improvement in behaviour.
This course provides a step-by-step guide for parents and teachers on how to write and implement Social Stories to enable individuals to understand their world.
Whenever possible we engage guest speakers who are on the autism spectrum on this course to explain their unique personal experiences.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of this course you will:
- Know what a Social Stories is and when you might need to write one
- Provide accurate and appropriate information for an individual on the autism spectrum
- Have the necessary skills to write a Social Story
- Be able to write and implement Social Story for an individual known to you

Introduction to the Autism Spectrum
This basic course lasts for 2½ hours and is aimed at being the first step to discovering the basics about this complex condition.
The training is aimed at people who have had a family member newly diagnosed or professionals who are moving into this area of work. It is lively and interactive and gives learners the confidence they need to work with individuals on the autism spectrum.
Whenever possible we engage guest speakers who are on the autism spectrum on this course to explain their personal experiences.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of this course you will:
- Have an insight into the difficulties people on the autism spectrum have to face
- Know why the condition affects them they way that it does
- Be equipped with strategies to overcome some of the difficulties a person on the autism has
- Be able to react proactively to meet the needs of individuals known to you

OCN - Level 2 - Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders Course
This 10 hour course (5 hours guided, 5 hours self learn) is accredited by The Open College Network (OCN). There is an open book assessment to complete at the end of the course. This training is lively and interesting and can be delivered on full days, half days or evenings. It is recommended that learners attend the awareness training before embarking on this programme of study or have some background experience living or working with individuals on the autism spectrum. Whenever possible we engage guest speakers who are on the autism spectrum on this course to explain their personal experiences. Learning outcomes: By the end of this course you will:
- Know the meaning of the term autism spectrum
- Know the effects this has on the individual on the autism spectrum
- Be able to support an individual on the autism spectrum using a variety of strategies and interventions
- Have the skills to be both proactive and reactive when dealing with some of the challenging behaviours which individuals on the autism spectrum have

OCN Level 3 Understanding & Supporting Individuals on the Autism Spectrum
This 30-hour course is accredited by OCN and can be delivered over full days, half days or evenings. It is aimed at professionals and families living with someone on the autism spectrum.
Individuals attending this course should have attended awareness training or have a sound background of experience living or working with individuals on the autism spectrum. Learners have to provide a portfolio of referenced evidence and a three-week reflective log to meet the course outcomes.
Whenever possible we engage guest speakers who are on the autism spectrum on this course to explain their personal experiences.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of this course you will:
- Know the meaning of the term autism spectrum
- Recognise the key barriers associated with individuals on the autism spectrum
- Be able to be proactive and reactive when dealing with behaviours of individuals on the autism spectrum
- Recognise and evaluate key interventions available to individuals on the autism spectrum
- Provide accurate and appropriate information for an individual on the autism spectrum
- Assess the support needs of an individual on the autism spectrum
- Develop and evaluate a support plan for an individual on the autism spectrum

This full-day course is aimed at people who already have a basic understanding of the autism spectrum, who want to be able to understand and manage some of the behaviours which individuals on the spectrum have. This interactive training involves some group work and is fun and interesting.

Have proactive strategies in order to promote positive behaviours
